1. I think innovation means creating something new or a new way of thinking about something.
ReplyDelete2. I try to incorporate play into the classroom as much as possible by using communicative games, hands on activities and technology. I try to tap into my students' passion and purpose by giving writing assignments and speaking topics which allow them to write/speak about topics they are each interested in.
3. I like to think that design based learning could be successful even with today's educational standards. I would hope that the same material could be taught in a way that creates innovators who are still able to pass the required standardized tests.
1. I would define innovation as being: unique, trend setting, universal (meaning everyone can and will use and benefit from it), ingenious, exciting, and new.
ReplyDelete2. I would say I have seen Play, Passion and Purpose in my life. In regards to education, I would say the education I received (which is vastly different from today's and before all the testing came about) was much more exciting and encouraging and allowed me to find myself. Although we are bound by so many procedures, policies and expectations, I try to tap into that in my teaching (the way I was taught) by making learning fun. After reading this same book, I shared some of the stories with my students. I am allowing them to do journal writings that will guide them to discovering what their passion is and I explained why (that it is what will drive you to learn and be better than the rest). I also go to recess and sometimes limit what they can play with in order to encourage creativity. The games they come up with are CRAZY & hilarious! I also allow them to talk (or collaborate) more especially when trying to decide on answers or types of products to do.
3. I think design based learning could work, especially with the availability of technology and the understanding of what companies are looking for in college graduates. I think that at the end of it all though, we (teachers) have to sometimes make a choice to go against the grain (be the outlier) because teaching is your passion and your purpose is to breed success in the lives of the children you teach.
1. Doing something that no one has done before, or improving something that was already done.
ReplyDelete2. Play still plays an important part in my life. I’m a teacher; I’m living my passion and purpose everyday in my classroom.
3. Yes it can, we can make it happen because we know our students. Dedicate some time and space for creativeness in your classroom.
1. Innovation is making or creating something new, either enhancement from previous innovation or completely new.
ReplyDelete2. I totally agree with this 3Ps, in my home country learning process was very boring, all based on text books, teacher centered classroom and score grade minded. By having Play, Passion and Purpose that will change a lot how instruction will be delivered in the classroom and create more engagement to the students. It will be very effective way to nurture creativity among the students.
Personally, I haven't had any classroom to manage, but I can reflect it by myself and seeing how students will be hilarious and excited to have their classes.
3. Design based learning is a positive reinforcement to our students, even though it might be more burden for the teachers, but still at the end we are educators for our students, and students are those one who should be in our mind, how to engage them, how to nurture them and how to educate them to be a better generation.
1. How would you define innovation?
ReplyDeleteInnovation is the development or creation of something new.
2. How have you seen play, passion, and purpose in your lifetime? Have you incorporated it into your classroom or life?
I have seen play, passion and purpose in my lifetime. The high school I attended made these a priority. I try to incorporate these into my own classroom. Oftentimes, I only succeed at incorporating passion and purpose because I teach at the high school level. As for my own life, I attempt to incorporate all three.
3. Do you think design based learning will work with today's educational standards? Why or why not?
I absolutely think design based learning will work with today’s educational standards. As schools begin to push for more use of technology, it will be easier to incorporate this type of learning. Even though it will take a lot of work on the teacher’s part, it is essential to the classroom if we want to develop innovators.
1. How would you define innovation?
ReplyDeleteInnovation is creating something new or developing a new idea.
2. How have you seen play, passion, and purpose in your lifetime? Have you incorporated it into your classroom or life?
Play, passion, and purpose have played an important role in my life. The no pass, no play rule was critical to my success in sports. My passion for playing sports drove my educational endeavors. I seek to instill the same intrinsic purpose for learning into my students.
3. Do you think design based learning will work with today's educational standards? Why or why not?
As technologies change, I think design based learning will work with today's standards. Design based learning can assist student modifications and increase the overall creativty among students.
1. Innovation is developing a new idea or product--something unique and interesting, and beneficial.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I've seen play, passion, and purpose in my own education. I experienced these elements to a great degree in my 6th grade language arts teacher's class. She is still a teacher at the school where I teach now, and she is a huge inspiration to me. I "borrow" many of her projects to promote the "3 p's" in my own classroom.
3. I am fortunate to teach in a school that doesn't worry about the pressure of state-mandated standards/standardized tests; however, for the many teachers who do, I think there should be a push (and according to some studies there is a movement) to change the format of state assessments. Learning porfolios would be an example of an assessment that is conducive to design based learning.
1. Innovation is creating a new product, method, or idea that benefits the public in some way.
ReplyDelete2. I've found that through opportunities to play I've learned my passions. If I hadn't had an opportunity to explore, then I wouldn't have found things that I enjoy so much. One that I remember in high school was controversial debates in government class. I learned that research applied to authentic situations was intriguing and exciting. I try to incorporate similar activities in my classroom through discovery learning and hands-on activities.
1. Innovation is something that is unique or one of a kind. I think it could also be something that already exists, but is enhanced in one way or another.
ReplyDelete2. I believe play, passion and purpose is important to education because it can be a tool used to engage students in learning. Speaking for myself, I know I learn best when I am passionate about the topic.
3. I think you can make anything possible with education so as long as you find a way to make it work. Design based learning could be very beneficial if it is done with intention.
